How to Connect your Domain Name to your Web Hosting Using Nameservers

So you bought a domain name and a web
hosting account. The next step is to connect the two so that when someone
goes to your website address in their browser, they’re able to see your website
at the web hosting account. When you sign up for your web hosting account you will
get a Welcome email. And in that email will be the settings that you need to
include on your domain name registration in order to connect it to your web
hosting account. Typically with shared hosting accounts, they will give you nameservers; but sometimes the web host will give you their IP address instead. In
this video I’m going to show you how to connect your domain name registration to
your web hosting account using their nameservers. If your web host gave you
an IP address, you’re gonna want to check out this video instead. Hi, I’m Kelly Ward

OK so just to make sure we’re on the same page… You’ve already purchased your domain name and you’ve purchased your web hosting account – but from two separate places. And
now we need to connect the two using their nameservers. The nameservers
typically look something like this. So then all you have to do is go to your
domain name registration and enter in these nameservers. Some web hosting
companies are different. Sometimes they’ll have two nameservers like shown
here – and sometimes they’ll have three or four. But the process is the same. In this example I’m going to show you how to do this using if you’re using another registrar, for example, GoDaddy, that’s fine; the process will be very similar. You’ll just go to the
settings of your domain name and then find the spot where you can enter in the
nameservers. So in this case, at, I’ve already purchased my domain name. What I need to do is go under my account and then go to the domain list
and locate that particular domain name. Once I’ve located the domain name I
click on Manage. And right here is where we can see the nameservers section. First thing we need to do is make sure that this setting is set as Custom DNS –
because we’re not using NameCheap’s web hosting. Choosing Custom here allows us
to connect to a different web hosting company. So as you can see here I can
enter in two nameservers. So I will do that now. So you enter in all the nameservers that your web hosting company gives you in that Welcome email. As I
mentioned before, some web hosting companies will have three or four nameservers. And you can just click this button here to add additional ones. So
after you’ve entered in all the nameservers, you click this icon here to save
your changes. And then you are done! If you have any problems you can contact
your domain name registrar ( in this example)
or you can contact your web hosting account. They both should be able to look at your settings and let
you know if there’s anything that you have set up incorrectly. Now one thing to
note is that it can take anywhere from a few hours up to 48 hours for these
settings to take effect. So what can you do in the meantime?
Hmmm… Why don’t you go ahead and hit that Subscribe button?!
